Functionalization of Natural Pigments from Organisms by Formation of Nanoparticles

研究の背景 Background


A lot of pigment derived from organisms can utilize for the human race. For example, carotenoids and flavonoids extracted from vegetable or fruits are not only used as natural pigments for coloring foods and cosmetics, but also have the function curing the human body. In addition, there is also great potential for new devices as well as for foods and medical use. So, it is very important to develop functional natural pigments as advanced materials.

研究の目標 Outcome


Some of the natural pigments are difficult to handle due to the poor water solubility and their use is limiting. In these case, formation of nanoparticles and dispersing in water is very effective because it can be treated as solution. In addition, it is also possible to show unique optical properties according to the particle size and shape. In this study, I aim to develop highly functional materials using natural pigments through formation of nanoparticles and controlling their structure.
