Highly efficient photoreaction systems using plasmonic nanostructures and optical microcavities

Background

In the research field of interaction between light and matter, recently, advanced techniques for control and manipulation of light in nanometer-sized space have been attracting widespread attention. Those techniques are based on novel concepts leading to unconventional photophysics, photochemistry and photobiology, and can be expected to open new fields on development of photo-energy conversion systems, functional optical communication and information devises, biosensing systems, and so on.

Outcome

The main object of the research is to develop the photon nano-shaping system using designed metal nanostructures and optical microcavities, that enables focusing of light into nanospace and shaping of photon on nanoscale. This system can realize shape matching between photon and molecule or molecular electron wavefunction, which is applicable to novel photoreaction systems.
