Density functional simulation of transition-metal oxides

Background

Since transition-metal oxide shows the rich variety of physical phenomena, such as magnetism and ferroelectricity, it has attracted extensive interest for a candidate material as an electronic device. As aiming at development of innovative future devices, it is required to understand the electronic structure of the material and clarify the microscopic origin of the desired material property.

Outcome

It is planned to perform density functional simulations on various transition-metal oxides to understand the origin of physical properties including magnetism and ferroelectricity. As based on the knowledge obtained on the electronic structure, candidate materials for future industrial application will be theoretically designed.
