Nano-structural analyses of heterogeneous metal catalysts and elucidation of the reaction mechanisms

研究の背景 Background


Heterogeneous metal catalysts are applied to the purification of automotive exhaust gases (CO, hydrocarbons, and NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Recently, it has been more significant to develop novel catalysts with higher performance, longer life, low content of precious metals and rare earth materials. To this end, it is indispensable to understand the reaction mechanisms on catalysts.

研究の目標 Outcome


We prepare heterogeneous metal catalysts such as Au, Pt and Pd catalysts and investigate their activities. On the other hand, we are trying to elucidate the reaction mechanisms of metal catalysts under reactant gases using environmental transmission electron microscopy (ETEM) with atomic resolution. We are challenging to the improvement of environmental catalysts and the development of novel catalysts by using the knowledge from experiments.
