Four-dimensional (4D) TEM observation for soft matter and corresponding in-situ environmental behavior

研究の背景 Background


Recently, four-dimensional (4D) ultrafast electron microscopy demonstrates as a powerful method for inorganic, organic, and biological systems. The fourth dimension of time enables space-time visualization of transient and intermediate structure. However, those researches are mostly limited to the combination of 2D images with time evolution. Real-space and real-time 4D-transmission electron microscopy (i.e., 3D object with time evolution) has not been achieved in soft materials.

研究の目標 Outcome


Exploring the dynamic mechanism of block copolymer (BCP) from thermal annealing is highly important for manipulating and optimizing material properties. However, it is difficult to examine the in-situ 4D morphological evolution of BCP between two order phases under electron microscopy. Herein, my research aims to examine the order-order transition of self-assembled BCP for 4D visualization of phase transitions. This work will provide a first example for the real-time and real-space method to observe phase transition for soft materials.
